Moon Cake Festival

It's Moon Cake Festival time (also known as Mid-Autumn Festival) !!!

For those of you who don't know what this is, Moon Cake Festival Day is the day Chinese people eat mooncakes with their families.  It occurs on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Chinese Calendar, which is when the moon is at it's fullest, roundest, and brightest time.

Here is a picture of a mooncake!

These baked goods contain lotus seed paste inside of them.  Most of them have an egg yolk in the middle, which represents the round moon.
Here's a little history behind these moon cakes:
No one knows the real story, but it runs along these lines......
When China was ruled by the Mongols, during the 14th century (Yuan dynasty), they wanted a rebellion.  The leaders from the previous dynasty (Sung), planned a secret rebellion by putting secret messages about the plan to revolt in mooncakes.  People saw these messages and on the day of the Moon Cake Festival, they all came together and overthrew the government.

Well, there's some information for you
 guys! Enjoy your mooncakes!

P.S. If you guys know me personally, you know for sure that I would mention the calorie content of these mooncakes....100 calories for 1/8 of a cake so 800 for the whole thing!!

and here's a little treat:
