THE CHOCOLATE ROOM

For those of you who live in Brooklyn and believe it's quite boring, here's a place that may remind you of the exciting and spectacular city, Manhattan! If you like Max Brenner, you'll definitely love The Chocolate Room!

The Chocolate Room was named the 2009 Best Dessert Cafe in New York by Zagat. They have mouth-watering chocolate desserts from fondues and puddings to cakes and sundaes. The Chocolate Room also offers wine, coffee, tea and hot chocolate (their vanilla latte is awesome!). They also sell Knipschildt Chocolates, which are little pieces of chocolate that are named using female first names (Kelly, Donna, Patricia). The place is beautifully decorated and is great for a romantic night after dinner or a hangout with friends.

They have two locations:

The Chocolate Room in Park Slope
86 Fifth Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11217

The Chocolate Room in Cobble Hill
269 Court Street
Brooklyn, NY 11231

Sometimes, it just takes a little bit of exploring to realize how great Brooklyn really is.

PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES RECIPE

So a few months ago I tried a recipe for red velvet cake from Sephora. Oh what a bad idea it was. It turned out to be a disaster- the cake was flat and it tasted like clay. The only good part was that it was actually red. So ever since then, I've been trying to find recipes that actually work. This recipe for peanut butter cookies actually works and is quite yummy (I tested it!). And so I would like to share it with you guys!

Peanut Butter Cookies (about an hour)

Ingredients:
1- 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
3/4 cup peanut butter (12 ounces)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature (4 ounces)
1-1/2 cups light brown sugar, firmly packed (5 ounces)
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 C)
2) Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl; set aside.
3) Place peanut butter, butter, and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer with a beater attachment. Beat on medium until light and fluffy. Scrape sides.
4) Beat in eggs, one at a time, on medium speed, scrape sides as needed.
5) Mix in vanilla extract.
6) Pour 1/2 flour mixture into mixing bowl and beat on low until combined. Scrape sides. Pour remaining flour mixture into mixing bowl and beat on low until combined. Scrape sides and beat on medium speed for 20 seconds.
7) Drop by spoonful onto a greased baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until they look lightly golden brown.
8) Remove to cooling rack, let sit for 2-3 minutes and then remove the cookies.

**REMEMBER TO BE VERY ACCURATE with your measurements. Never eye a certain amount when it comes to baking, for a little too much of something will ruin the end product.

HAVE FUN AND ENJOY!

Lady Gaga!

For those of you who believe Lady Gaga is a joke, she is not! She is truly talented and here's proof-

but I do admit that the elephant on her head does look ridiculous

SUMMER'S WARDROBE

After watching 500 Days of Summer, I have to recognize Summer's (played by Zooey Deschanel) undeniably adorable and lovely vintage wardrobe.

She is one of the few people who can rock that bow headband (Blair can pull it off as well).  Cute!

Notice how she always wears blue?  According to costume designer Hope Hanafin, blue was chosen to highlight her beautiful blue eyes and to make her stand out.  No one else wears blue in the movie- only her.

I guess you guys get the point.  I had to give props to her haha

Josie Maran Cosmetics

On Saturday, August 1st, I had the privilege to meet supermodel and actress Josie Maran at the grand opening of the new Sephora in Times Square.  She is so sweet!

Many of you may have seen her face in Maybelline advertisements, or perhaps have seen her getting bitten by Howie from the Backstreet Boys in their video, "Everybody" (if not, watch it again and look closely haha).
Maran was giving free makeovers using cosmetics from her own line called Josie Maran Cosmetics.   Since it's free, you know I'm up for it!  I only asked for my eye makeup to be done, so Josie only used eye products, but she does have blush, concealer, foundation, bronzer, etc.

 And so the makeover begins............

And here I am with Josie Maran! She created a smoky eye look and a sort of cat eye look (Btw, she's gorgeous!). Josie applied massive amounts of eye shadow, eye liner, and mascara to create the look.  All the products were great, but I was especially satisfied with the mascara.  I've tried so many kinds and they have all left black circles under my eyes.  I have come to the conclusion that I can only use the ones that are waterproof.  However, I cannot wash it off with water, which is quite frustrating.

This one on the other hand is totally smudgeproof! I wore it while roaming around Times Square in the blazing heat for the entire day after my makeover and it didn't run or smear at all!  So if you're looking for smudgeproof mascara, this is it.

SUMMER'S MUST SEE

Here it is folks.... this summer's must see!

500 Days of Summer
The best romantic comedy I've watched in a while.  This is unlike the rest.   It's not your typical love story between two lovebirds.  I do not want to spoil it for anyone, so I won't get into the plot.  However, it possesses a crucial quality that I look for in movies that other romantic comedies have not delivered- a valuable lesson.  I've watched many romantic comedies- "He's just not that into you," "The Ugly Truth," etc. and have not learned a thing.  However, "500 Days of Summer" truly opens the eyes of the audience.  A MUST SEE. It's worth it.

P.S. the soundtrack kicks ass.

THRIFT SHOP

So here is my second blog..I'm going to focus on the things I enjoy, and my main purpose for this blog is to recommend any good products, books, movies, stores, etc... so I hope you guys learn a lot from this!

So it's mid-summer and my friend, Jessica, and I have been looking for a decent thrift shop to go to.  And we have finally found the one!!

Operated by Housing Works, it's..........

Jessica managed to get her hands on a beautiful pair of blue patent heels from CO-OP Barneys New York for only $40!

I got my hands on a pair of Ferragamos for $35! So if you are looking for a thrift shop, this is the one to go to!

According to The New York Observer, Bill Clinton dropped off two bags of clothes at Housing Works' Gramercy location. Sarah Jessica Parker was seen dropping items off as well. Chloe Sevigny, Susah Sarandon and the ladies from "Real Housewives of New York" all donated items to the Housing Works at Tribeca.  So who knows, maybe you'll end up wearing something from Sarah Jessica Parker's fabulous wardrobe!

Here is the site to their other locations!
